Dollar Bank Jamboree Details Released
Friday, July 25, 2008
After a great deal of research, phone calls, and e-mails, we here at BoatPittsburgh.com were finally able to find out the details about the Dollar Bank Jamboree as they impact the boating public.
For the evening of July 26, 2006, the fireworks safety zone will be the same as it was for the 4th of July fireworks because they will be shot from the same location on the Allegheny side of Point State Park. The following information was provided by the United States Coast Guard concerning the safety zone:
The Captain of the Port of Pittsburgh has established a safety zone for the Dollar Bank Jamboree from the USS Requin Submarine on the Ohio River to the Fort Duquesne Bridge on the Allegheny River to the abandoned bridge pier and fountain pump building (at the Point) on the Monongahela River. Persons and vessels shall not enter into, depart from, or move within this safety zone unless specifically authorized by the Captain of the Port of Pittsburgh or a designated representative. All concerned traffic can contact the coast guard on VHF-FM channel 16 or the Captain of the Port at 412-644-5808. The Safety Zone will enter into effect at 9:00 PM until approximately 11:00pm on Saturday, July 26, 2008.
Because of the fireworks safety zone restrictions and a fishing tournament benefiting the Boys and Girls Club there will also be several restrictions on docking at Point State Park. The following information was provided to me by Richard A. Linn Jr., District Chief / Operations Chief, River Rescue Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS:
On Saturday, July 26th boats will NOT be allowed to dock at any portion of Point State Park from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM due to the Boys and Girls Club fishing tournament. At 2:00 PM boats will be allowed to moor on the Monongahela River side of Point State Park from the Pump House up river ONLY. This is the only area of Point State Park that is not in the fireworks safety zone. Any other areas outside of the fireworks safety zone are also available for docking during the event.
