River Trip Roundup '08

As expected, everyone aboard all 14 boats that went on the annual BoatPittsburgh.com River Trip had a great time on a very memorable trip.

The adventure started out with a nice ride Friday evening up to the Beaver River. The sun was setting as all of the boats made their way through the no wake zone. River Harbour Marina rolled out the red carpet for us as we made our approach. Jeff, the Dockmaster that evening, made room for everyone and helped us all feel at home. Once settled in, the crew headed to Kelly’s Pub for a nightcap. The sand, the music, and getting to know others on the trip made for a great ending of the first day.

After a great breakfast and some tasty breakfast drinks in the morning, the boats headed further down the Ohio River. After locking through the Montgomery L/D, the whole crew beached their boats at Phyllis Island where we took a dip in the river and had lunch.

From there we went the short distance to Holiday Yacht Club in Chester, West Virginia. The people at HYC also welcomed us as one of their own. They even invited us over to their picnic dinner. Once evening came, some of the crew headed to Mountaineer Race Track and Casino to try their luck while others tried out some establishments a little closer to the marina.

In the morning we had another great breakfast and began out trek back to our home ports. Although we were greeted by a nasty storm on the ride back, everyone made it through without harm. When the sun popped out again, we decided to make a quick stop at the Paradise Beach Club on the back channel of Neville Island for some food and cheers with the last few boats that were on the trip.

Once again, BoatPittsburgh.com would like to thank both marinas for their great hospitality. For those of you that are ever in either of those areas, definitely look them up for transient docking. For those that didn’t make the trip, don’t worry. There will definitely be another trip next year!
